Q1: What is the reservation process?

A1: Reservation forms and a 50% deposit are required at the time of booking to hold a spot with the balance due one month before sailing ( unless you have booked a shorter notice cruise), in which case the full fare is due upon reservation confirmation. Refunds will be given after 6 weeks IF we are able to rebook your cruise dates with another party.

Q2: Are private accommodations available?

A2: Yes, "Promise" has a forward cabin with two single births, storage lockers and writing desk. A center cabin with one double birth, storage lockers and closet. She also has an aft cabin with two double bunks, storage lockers, closet and it's own private head (bathroom). Forward and center cabins have private access to the forward head (bathroom) without having to pass through the shared cabin areas. All cabins have port holes and heat.

Q3: What if I take medication or have other on going medical requirements?

A3: You should bring a supply of medications or over the counter drugs that you regularly take plus enough for at least a few extra days. Our captains are experienced in first aid and emergency medical care. However, if you are diabetic, have seizure disorders or other on going medical care needs we require written approval from your doctor and you must be able to self regulate and administer any medications required for the duration of the voyage.
( This applies to extended cruises or cruises to remote areas where doctors, medications or medical facilities may not be available.)

Q6: What other accommodations are onboard?

Q7: What is a participatory Charter?

A7: On participatory charters each guest will be expected to participate in preparation of meals, clean-up, etc.., also to assist with sailing the boat. This is often preferred by groups or family's that are used to working together. It also gives people an opportunity to learn sailing and boat handling. It's really not like WORK . It's FUN and it saves you money.

Q8: How does weather affect a charter itinerary?

A8: Weather is always a big part of any sailing adventure. Wind is what powers our vessel. Though we have the ability to motor anywhere and the advantage of a comfortable inside helm (steering station), the foulest of storms are not usually a pleasurable experience. Therefore our captains have the ability and reserve the right to alter any itinerary to insure the best and safest experience while you are aboard "Promise". If itineraries need to be changed the captain will discuss the options with you and together with our guests decide on new destinations or activities.

Q9: When we are anchored or in harbors what options are available to me?

A9: There are many options available. "Promise" carries a 10Ft. inflatable with outboard and ore's. Many people enjoy exploring the islands and shorelines, building campfires to roast marshmallows and wieners, fishing, crabbing, digging clams. Through the years while sailing "Promise" we have been fortunate to have found several treasure maps floating in bottles. We know through our diligent and relentless efforts that treasures can be found on many Islands that we visit. Kids and families love this.( Shhhhhhhhhh)

There are also many nature areas, historic areas, museums, shops and restaurants.

Q10: Can I book a one-way cruise?

A10: Yes, there are people who really want to cruise the Columbia river between Portland and Astoria but only have time for a one-way passage. You will need to make your own arrangements for transportation back. We will help if we can.
